Speaker Table

This is a project I recently completed, as a wedding gift for my sister and her now husband. Each box is made with furniture-grade oak plywood, joined with steel legs, and accented with copper and walnut.

The lower box functions as a storage compartment, while the upper box functions as a Bluetooth speaker! It's run by a 2 x 8 watt Bluetooth audio driver, paired to two, 4" full range drivers, and two weighted bass diaphragms.

The copper nails that hold the speaker grill in, and the copper wire inlay of their wedding date provide a color accent, and a bit of a texture break. The legs have a hammered steel finish, as to compliment the texture of the grill, while keeping continuity of color between the top and bottom. The table is completed with a piece of local black walnut, complimented by the leg joint pieces and the storage handle, all treated with a beeswax and citrus oil wood finish, to protect the wood and bring out the grain.

If I were to do this again, I would use a more uniform piece of walnut for the top surface, and provide more of a highlight on the speaker part of the table. This was meant to look like a table that happens to function as a speaker, but I think something that unique deserves to be the star of the show.

Looking forward to trying and learning more in the future!
